Tanzania – Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (Tanzania-ECTN)

        Since 1 September 2013, Tanzania has enforced ECTN certification. Any cargo shipped without an ECTN will be subject to severe penalties at the destination port. The ECTN is a mandatory clearance document for exports to Tanzania. Failure to obtain it may result in the shipping line at the port of loading being unable to issue the bill of lading, or the consignee at the destination port being unable to clear customs.

Note
**The ECTN certificate must be obtained before the shipping line issues the original ocean bill of lading.
**Once approved and effective, the original ECTN certificate (PDF format) will be emailed to the applicant. The applicant should forward this original certificate to the consignee at the destination port and the shipping line, etc.

Specific Application Process for Tanzania ECTN/BESC Certificate

Required Documents

1. Tanzania ECTN (BESC) Application Form

2. Scanned copy of the shipping line’s bill of lading (if not yet available, a draft copy of the bill of lading can be provided first)

3. Must display the shipping line’s logo and the ON BOARD date

4. Scanned copy of the INVOICE

5. Scanned copy of the PACKING LIST 

Application Process

1. The applicant completes the Tanzania ECTN (BESC) Application Form and sends it to our company email.

2. Upon receiving the application form, we will issue a debit note to the applicant for payment. After making the payment, the applicant should send the bank slip along with the following documents to us:

 a) Scanned copy of the shipping line’s bill of lading

 b) Scanned copy of the INVOICE

 c) Scanned copy of the PACKING LIST

3. After receiving the documents, we will assign an ECTN/BESC number and send the ECTN/BESC DRAFT to the applicant within 1 working day. The applicant must carefully review and verify the ECTN/BESC DRAFT. Once the applicant confirms the ECTN/BESC DRAFT and sends it back to us along with the scanned copy of the original bill of lading, we will submit it for approval overseas. No modifications can be made once the ECTN/BESC DRAFT is approved.  

4. After approval by the overseas authority, we will send the original Tanzania ECTN/BESC certificate to the applicant. 

Note:

 **The ECTN certificate must be applied for before the shipping line issues the original ocean bill of lading, and the process must be completed before the cargo arrives at the port.

 **Once approved and effective, the original ECTN certificate (PDF format) will be emailed to the applicant. The applicant should forward this original certificate to the consignee at the destination port and the shipping line, etc.

 **After the CTN NO. is generated, no information can be modified except for the bill of lading date and number. If modifications are necessary, additional amendment fees will apply.
